Sessions

What to expect..

In a session with a counselor/coach typically consists of the following elements:

  1. Check-in and rapport building: At the beginning of the session, the counselor creates a safe and comfortable environment, allowing the client to share any updates, concerns, or recent experiences. This establishes a rapport between the counselor and the client, building trust and openness.
  2. Discussion of current challenges: The counselor invites the client to talk about their current struggles, emotional state, and any specific issues they would like to address during the session. The client may share their thoughts, feelings, and experiences, while the counselor actively listens and provides empathetic support.
  3. Exploration and reflection: The the counselor guides the client in exploring their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors related to their challenges. They may ask probing questions, offer alternative perspectives, and help the client gain insights and a deeper understanding of themselves and their situation.
  4. Goal-setting and intervention: Based on the client's needs and goals, the counselor collaboratively develops a treatment plan or intervention strategy. This may involve setting specific therapeutic goals, discussing coping mechanisms, practicing new skills, or exploring techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, or other evidence-based approaches.
  5. Closure and planning: Towards the end of the session, the counselor summarizes the key points discussed and invites the client to reflect on the session's insights and takeaways. They may offer guidance or suggestions for continued self-reflection or exercises to practice between sessions. The counselor and client also discuss the frequency and scheduling of future appointments if needed.

It's important to note that the structure and content of a coaching session may vary depending on the therapeutic approach, the client's specific needs, and the counselor's style. Counseling and coaching is a collaborative process, with the counselor adapting their approach to best support the client's well-being and progress.
